Product Description

Food to Live: Eat Well and Be Healthy

Food to Live is a company committed to making people healthier by providing them with delicious, healthy food. We established this business with a purpose of making a change that would take our world one step closer to being a better place for us and our children.

Food to Live delivers a variety of natural, organic and raw foods that can enable anyone to develop healthy eating habits. All our products can be included into a vegan diet.

Wonders of the Apple Fruit

Raw apple fruits are used in a variety of ways, including the production of cider, apple butter, and apple jelly. They can be eaten raw when ripe or used for cooking delicious apple pies, crumbles, cakes, and many other desserts. These fruits can be used for making savory dishes as well, and a duck roasted with apples is one of the most amazing meals you can find.

Apple fruits are used in the production of cosmetic products and often included in homemade beauty remedies. All Western cultures use apple fruits extensively, so there are at least several dishes based on them in every cuisine.

One of the best things about these fruits is that they are as good dried as they are raw. Of course, both the taste and texture of dried apples is a bit different, but they are no less enjoyable or nutritious.

Food To Live Dried Apples: Organic, No Sugar, No Freeze

Dried Apples from Food To Live are sourced from trusted farmers and processed with love and care using top-quality equipment. Our facility is organic and so are these products.

Food To Live Organic Dried Apples aren’t freeze dried and retain the majority of the nutrients contained in fresh fruits. Their texture is pleasant and smooth as it always is with properly dehydrated fruits.

We add no sugar to our Dried Apples, so you don’t have to worry about getting an extra large helping of this unhealthy substance. However, as the fruits contain a variety of sugars naturally, dried slices taste rather sweet without any extra syrup.

Freeze Dried or Dehydrated?

At Food To Live, we use top-notch dehydration equipment in order to produce top-quality dried fruits. Unlike freeze dried apple slices, our products don’t crumble and don’t require dehydration to be used for cooking.

Our dried apple slices have extensive shelf life and can be enjoyed right from the pack as a healthy snack. You can also use them for making some delicious beverages and fantastic baked goods.

Are Dried Apples Healthy?

Yes, dried apples are healthy and good for you because they contain many essential vitamins and minerals. They make a great source of antioxidants.

Dried apple slices give you lots of fiber (3.7 grams per ½ cup of fruits). The US Department of Agriculture advises that men and women should have at least 1.5-2 cups of fruits per day. Due to their high content of nutrients and low amount of fats, they make a great addition to any healthy diet.

Fresh Vs. Dried Apples: Which Is Best?

There is quite a bit of arguing surrounding the topic of whether fresh fruits are superior to dried ones. It’s a silly argument because the truth is that both types of fruits are good for you. They are full of nutrients and fiber, and usually low on calories.

Fresh and dried fruits really differ in their nutrient content to some extent. This is caused by the fact that dehydration usually involves heating (or freezing in the case of freeze drying), which interferes with some elements.

For example, vitamins A, B, and C turn unstable at high temperatures, so their amount in dried fruits is lesser as compared to fresh. Other vitamins are mostly unaffected by these reactions, so their levels remain almost the same. The situation with the minerals is similar with calcium being one of the least stable elements.

It’s indeed true that in general, fresh fruits have a higher nutritional value. Therefore, they are more beneficial to your health. However, few people can enjoy any kind of fresh produce out all year round.

Dried fruits, on the other hand, are available anytime. As they can keep for years, you’ll never have to go ‘fruitless’ if your pantry is stocked with dried goods.

Dried Apples: Nutrition Profile

Dried apple slices are an extremely nutrient rich food. This is the reason why they are such a great snack.

Of all the vitamins and minerals they contain, they have the highest levels of:

  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin K
  • B vitamins
  • Vitamin E
  • Potassium
  • Iron
  • Copper
  • Manganese
These elements are all necessary for our diet because they affect a great number of biochemical reactions that go on inside us every second.

Making Dried Apple Slices at Home

You can make any kind of dried fruit in an oven if you are willing to invest time and energy into the task. To prepare dried apples, you’ll have to wash and slice the fruits. Place them on a baking sheet covered with waxed parchment, and put them into an oven for several hours.

Keep the temperature around 200F and turn over the slices occasionally. The time of drying would vary based on the type of apples and size of the slices.

Dried Apples: Recipe Collection

Dried apple slices should be a regular guest at every kitchen because they are extremely versatile. If you eat meat, you can whip up a fantastic sauce for either chicken or pork by heating up dried apples with cranberries, a bit of apple cider and spices to your liking.

Dried apple slices can be added to salads of almost any kind. They go extremely well with any fruits as well as cucumbers, carrots, and avocados. Their taste isn’t too intense, as with some dried foods. This allows you to use them in a wide range of recipes. Dried apple slices are exceptionally good with rice and can become the secret ingredient of your personal fried rice recipe.

Most often, dried apples are used in baking. You can just mix them with the dough, as you would raisins, and make delicious apple pastries. However, you can also use them to make apple granola bars or crumbles.

As dried apple slices can be eaten as they are, you can also use them in the so-called ‘raw’ recipes. For example, try mixing them with dried figs, oats, and walnuts. Flavor with some cinnamon and nutmeg and process everything in a blender. Form balls from the sticky mass and refrigerate. Enjoy these delicious energy bites whenever you need some extra ‘fuel’.

Ultimate Vegan Apple Pie for Any Season

For an average, American the first food that comes to mind at the mention of apples is apple pie. Dried slices of this fruit can be used to make a fantastic raw pie.

You’ll need:

  • ½ pound dried apples
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds (ground)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 cups apple juice
Ingredients for the crust:
  • 2 cups almond flour
  • ½ cup Medjool dates
  • ½ cup walnuts
  • 1 tablespoon flaxseed (ground)
  • Set the dried apples to soak in apple juice in the morning on the day you plan to cook or the night before.
  • Remove reconstituted apple slices from the juice and squeeze as hard as you can without actually damaging the fruits.
  • Add chia seeds and cinnamon and about 1 tablespoon of the juice and toss to coat all slices in the spicy mix.
  • Process all crust ingredients in a blender and will a springform pan with the sticky mixture. You’ll need to press the crust so that it coats the walls of the pan evenly. Use some plastic wrap to help you.
  • Place the apples inside the crust and press gently so that they are packed properly. Remember that the crust is soft at this stage, so don’t overdo it.
  • Refrigerate overnight or at least for a few hours and enjoy while it’s cool.

How to Store Dried Apple Slices

All dried foods can be stored almost indefinitely if you keep them in their original packaging and inside the freezer. Once open, Dried Apples from Food To Live should be stored in an airtight container and inside a cool dark place.

Keeping them in a fridge would extend their shelf life.
